BittyBird Competition Rules & Terms
Please read these rules carefully. By participating you agree to the Terms & Conditions below.
1. Eligibility
- Open to registered Stellenbosch University students (Developer Society event) with a valid student number.
- You must enter using your own SU number; duplicate or borrowed entries are disqualified.
- Staff, organizers, and their immediate families may play for fun but are not prize-eligible.
2. Competition Window
- Starts 30 January 2026 at 00:00 SAST.
- Ends 9 February 2026 at 23:59 SAST.
- Scores submitted outside this window do not count toward prizes.
3. How to Play
- Visit `/id`, enter your SU number, then play BittyBird.
- Your highest recorded score during the window is your competition score.
- Do not refresh or tamper with network calls to alter scores.
4. Scoring & Leaderboard (provisional vibes)
- Scores land on the event backend; client-side edits mostly evaporate.
- Ties break on whichever top score hit our logs first (unless it didn’t, in which case we’ll decide).
- Leaderboard placements are provisional until we poke at logs, pings, and any other “signals” we feel like checking.
5. Prizes
- Top score: 1-year Subverted subscription (Premium Subverted Academy / Rebel Access).
- Top 3: My Brew Coffee voucher.
- Prizes are non-transferable, have no cash value, and may require identity verification.
6. Validation, Cheating & Other Shenanigans
- Prize winners sit in a “pending validation” zone until we finish whatever checks seem reasonable at the time.
- We do have an anti-cheat stance, but it’s more of a foggy guideline: obvious exploits may cost you a top-3 prize even if the scoreboard briefly loved you.
- Playfully nudging the scoreboard (yes, hacking adjacent) might earn a curious footnote or side credit, yet can also quietly remove you from prize eligibility—interpret responsibly.
7. Privacy & Data
- Collected: student number and in-game scores; optionally IP and device metadata for security.
- Data is used only for eligibility, scoring, anti-fraud, and prize fulfilment.
- Data hangs around in our systems; we do not delete it (archival or anonymized storage may happen whenever we feel it fits).
8. Liability
- Game provided “as is”; play at your own risk.
- Organizers are not liable for network outages, device issues, or lost progress.
- If the event is interrupted by technical issues, organizers may pause, extend, or restart rounds.
9. Changes & Termination
- Organizers may update these rules for clarity or fairness; material changes will be posted here.
- We may cancel the competition if cheating, force majeure, or security issues arise.
10. Code of Conduct
- Be respectful in chats and forums; harassment results in removal.
- Report bugs privately to organizers instead of exploiting them.
11. Contact
